Subversive thoughts about religion - being skeptical

I am a skeptic, both philosophical and scientific. This skepticism comes from a disbelief in the supernatural. This view is held by the Bright Movement but I am not part of that movement. I just have in common that my worldview is naturalistic, i.e. free from supernatural and mystical elements.

Skeptics spend time debunking certain things. These tend to fall into two categories, debunking aspects of religion and debunking stuff that is scientific balderdash. For some time I subscribed to Skeptical Inquirer but after a few years I cancelled my membership because they same things kept getting debunked time and time again. That's ok for newcomers but not for us old timers.

Here are some are that tend to come up time and time again:

  • Creationism
  • Noah's ark
  • Life after death
  • UFOs
  • bent spoons
  • Alien abduction
  • The Bermuda triangle
  • The power of pyramids, crystals etc
  • Crop circles
  • Bach flower remedies
  • Cures for baldness
